Rest In Peace, Edda. 2009–2021
I don’t have words today. Last night was awful, Edda kept panicking and trying to run away from her pain, but her left leg looked dislocated and she couldn’t use it at all, plus she was completely blocked up again and her vent area was severely swollen, as if she had an egg in there. We were awake all night until about 4am, when she finally settled into a fitful sleep on three perches I put together so she could sit more comfortably. I stayed awake and sent an email to our vet.
At 6am she fell off her perch and hurt her leg further. She crawled into my hands and laid on my chest for about an hour, looking for comfort. Her breathing was hard and fast and I could see she was in pain.
The vet arrived at about 10am. It was time to let her fly free. It was peaceful and painless and she went to sleep forever in my hands.
We covered her cage because it was too habitual to see it and look for her in there. She isn’t there. After twelve beautiful, happy, silly years, our little blue baby floofy is gone.
