Today was an extension of Friday the 13th. Something I ate yesterday did NOT agree with me and I was miserable most of the day.

Meanwhile, I fired up my old iPhone 4S with the intention of turning it into a music device, only to discover that not only was it bricked, but according to the date of the last backup, it’s been bricked since October.

Attempting to restore it via wifi was an exercise in futility. I then attempted to restore it via iTunes on my Windows laptop, but Apple hasn’t supported iTunes on Windows for quite some time. It’s buggy and completely unusable. I ended up uninstalling it from my laptop altogether in frustration.

As a last-ditch attempt to save it, I connected it to my work MacBook. I had to find an adapter for the old 30-pin to USB A cable because my work MacBook only has Thunderbolt and USB C ports.

It took three reboots of the iPhone and two of the MacBook before it finally connected and then my MacBook told me it was bricked. As if I didn’t already know that. It then gave me the option to wipe the phone completely, do a clean reinstall iOS 9.6, and then restore the phone from its last backup.

Thank goodness the last backup was still available in the Cloud. It took forever, and the last time I looked at it, it was busy re-downloading whatever apps it had that are still available in the App Store.

But at least I forgot about my sick tummy for a while.
