Ukraine War: Day 826

Hamas-Israel War: Day 233

Mass shootings in the USA in 2024: 181

I’ve spent the past week after we got back from Napa trying to catch up at work. I’m not having a lot of success. We have three huge productions wrapping all at the same time in two locations, and trying to keep up with the partial returns and billing schedules, plus staying current with all the new stuff coming in, has been almost more than I can manage. Almost. After all, I’m only one person and I’m managing three locations all over the country, all with very limited staff.

Over the long Memorial Day weekend, we tried to rest as much as possible. Saturday my husband went running in Santa Monica and visited the big farmer’s market. I had an epic brunch with my best friend. On. Sunday I did some laundry and cleaned Kiki’s cage, while my husband made dinner. My siblings and I had a lovely Sunday Zoom.

Yesterday he made an heirloom tomato salad and I tried a new recipe for deviled eggs, which wasn’t good enough for other people, but was quite tasty for us to have as a snack. We binge-watched “Band of Brothers” to commemorate the day. In the evening, we were invited for a barbecue at our dear friends’ home, with their two daughters and their silly dogs. We feel like family every time we see them. The food and the company were delightful.

Today it was back to reality. I still haven’t caught up after our Napa trip and my 5-hour drive to and from the office last Wednesday. This will be a short, four-day workweek, and I’m going to be nose-to-grindstone until my workload is at least current (more or less).

For your culinary enjoyment, here are some photos from Saturday bunch at The Butcher’s Daughter in West Hollywood.
