Ukraine War: Day 850

Hamas-Israel War: Day 257

Mass shootings in the USA in 2024: 234

Yesterday was the Summer Solstice, which means it was the longest day of daylight for the year. We had to put the birds to bed while the sun was still out, with mixed results. (I remember being a child and feeling very Put Out because I was expected to go to sleep in the summer when it was still light outside. That’s just wrong.)

Donald Sutherland passed away yesterday at the age of 88. He was a Canadian-American legend and one of the most revered actors of our lifetime. To commemorate, we watched Robert Altman’s film M*A*S*H (1970) on Amazon Prime. So much of that movie couldn’t be made today because of all the cigarette smoking and hazing of Hot Lips (Sally Kellerman), but it’s a beloved classic and one of his most iconic roles.

Today I finally got one of the huge TV shows wrapped up. It shot for almost two years, due to the WGA / SAG-Aftra strikes last year that interrupted production for six months. After we got all of the multitude of orders checked in, we discovered that there were absolutely NO damages, and the minimal losses were literally only 0.914% of their total rental revenue, so we didn’t think twice about writing that off. It felt very good to send that “it’s a wrap” email to production and close that last order.

And now it’s time to wrap up this week. I have bird cages to clean and a mountain of laundry to wash tomorrow. But I think I might have to sleep in first.
